Maintenance and service logs
Every job, engine hour, and part logged against the system it belongs to, with a plain view of what’s overdue, what’s due this month, and what’s on track. Say what you fixed and it’s logged.
Tight Ship · Coming soon to iPhone, iPad, and Android
The boat-management app we built aboard WARRIOR, our 2021 Leopard 45, for cruisers who live on their boats and are often a long way from a chandlery, a mechanic, or a signal.
Why we built it
Soon after we bought WARRIOR, we were sailing her to the Turks and Caicos when water started coming into the engine room. The previous owners had never had the rudders dropped for service, the kind of job that is easy to put off when nothing seems wrong.
Nothing seemed wrong right up until it was. We hauled out in St. Martin, waited on parts shipped from Italy, and spent three weeks on the hard. The builder’s recommended service would have prevented all of it.
That is the gap Tight Ship fills. Dave started it as a notebook and a spreadsheet aboard WARRIOR, and it grew into the app we use to run the boat: what’s due, what’s stowed where, and what it all costs, kept on the phone in the cockpit instead of a binder at the nav station.
We’re experienced cruisers, not professional mechanics. Tight Ship is built for owners like us: one boat that is also home, fixed with whatever is in the spares locker, often days from the nearest signal.
A Life Warrior owns the outcome. On a boat, that starts with knowing what’s due before it becomes a haul-out.
What it keeps
Everything saves on the device first, so it all works at anchor with no signal, and nothing waits for a connection.
Every job, engine hour, and part logged against the system it belongs to, with a plain view of what’s overdue, what’s due this month, and what’s on track. Say what you fixed and it’s logged.
Life raft, EPIRB, flares, extinguishers, PFDs, and the first-aid kit, each with its service and expiry dates, flagged before a date slips past.
Stores and spares recorded by the locker they live in, so the spare impeller and the last bag of coffee can be found without emptying the boat.
The manuals for your engines, saildrives, and gear, kept on the device. When the watermaker stops in a bay with no signal, the manual is already aboard.
Fuel, marina nights, permits, and parts, each kept against the job it belongs to, in the currency you paid in, with the year set against your budget.
The routines that keep a boat safe, before a passage and before you leave her at anchor, on the phone in the cockpit and ready to tick through.
